Great Chesapeake Bay Wellness Race May 7-13

Posted

Eastern Shore Hospital Center Auxiliary’s 19th Annual Hybrid Great Chesapeake Bay Wellness Race & Family Walk will be May 7-13, during National Mental Health Month.

For the last 18 years, 200 community members and Eastern Shore Hospital Center staff have joined together for this family-centered, auxiliary-sponsored fundraising event. The Great Chesapeake Bay Wellness Race & Family Walk has two goals:

  • To reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness – to create awareness about this illness and the possibly disabling consequences of this disease by promoting good physical and mental health.
  • To provide and to support the daily personal needs and treatment activities of 84 residential patients.

A way to show support locally and promote good physical and mental health is to participate in this event. Also, Course Mile and T-shirt sponsorships are available by contacting Jeanne Bromwell, coordinator – ESHC Volunteer Services, at 410-221-2357 or Jeanne.Bromwell@maryland.gov.

Sponsorships to date are the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort & Spa; Blue Cheetah Timing; Tri-Gas & Oil Inc.; Daryl & Jane Butcher; William Webb; Donna Robinson; Dr. & Mrs. D Graham Slaughter and Susan Middleton.

In 2022, the race offers the best of both worlds - a live, timed 10K and 5K run Saturday, May 7, on the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Resort’s River Marsh Golf Course in Cambridge and a virtual 10K, 5K run and 3K walk event with results submissions available from May 7-13.

The adult fee is $25 pre-registration for either the timed 10K or 5K run in-person or virtual, or virtual family walk. There is no fee for youth under 12. The fee includes a commemorative T-shirt featuring 2022 artwork created by an ESHC patient, timing bib and a chance to win awards in each age category. Snacks/water will be available. Use tinyurl.com/mdhwellness or RunSignUp.com to register – choose WELLNESS Race – 21613.

The ESHC Auxiliary is a 501(c)3 organization. Its purpose is to provide patient services.  Approximately 69% of ESHC patients are deemed indigent and 72% unremembered.  The ESHC is a regional acute-care psychiatric facility, under the jurisdiction of the Maryland Department of Health. It serves citizens of the counties of Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Talbot, Caroline, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset and Worcester.

For more information regarding registration, volunteering or becoming a sponsor, contact the ESHC Auxiliary at 410-221-2358 or email Judith.slaughter@maryland.gov.
