Gee: Many ‘wonderful’ parts of Sussex County disappearing

Posted

First, I have to say that our Sussex County Council is trying to do what it thinks is best for the county; however, as a former environmental regulator, I have watched this beautiful county fall to unbridled development. All I have heard at council meetings is, “Oh, we can’t infringe on property rights,” with which I agree. But enough is enough. I believe there are more than 1,000 approved lots available for building new dwelling units.

Even given 12-18 months for a site plan to go through the permitting process, there are more than enough lots to go around. I personally feel that it is time to place a “12-month site plan moratorium” in place. This will allow our undersized and lacking infrastructure to catch up at least to what was needed in 2010.

I keep seeing more and more of what makes Sussex County such a wonderful place to live disappear, and it is heartbreaking.
