GEORGETOWN — Model trains have long been a holiday tradition.

So, again this season, members of the Delaware SeaSide Railroad Club will have their prize model trains at the Georgetown Public Library for all to see — at no cost.

The exhibit runs from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. each Saturday from Nov. 25 to Dec. 16 at 123 W. Pine St.

“I am so excited to host our 12th annual DSRC Model Train Display,” said Rachel Culver, the library’s director, in a press release. “The kids and families absolutely love this program every year — in fact, last year we had over 500 people attend over the course of the month.”

Club spokesman Dr. David A. Lawrence added that the show will consist of four operating layouts.

The O gauge layout has a carnival/circus theme, with 21 buttons around 11 dioramas. The buttons allow children to operate moving accessories, lights and sounds.

The S gauge display features several scratch-built buildings depicting beach town businesses and homes.

The “Polar Express” layout will depict the popular story of three children and their friends on an adventure to visit Santa Claus at the North Pole.

Plus, the Thomas the Tank Engine layout can be run by children holding a hand control. In addition, kids can toot the whistle and ring the bell.

Also, younger children can play with the BRIO wooden train on the floor layout table.

“Come enjoy the trains. Bring your family, neighbors, and friends visiting the shore. It is a delight for all ages,” said Dr. Lawrence.

The Delaware SeaSide Railroad Club consists of over 60 members. Its clubhouse is north of Selbyville on U.S. 113, and it accepts donations of old trains, as it is a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
