Learn how to manage high blood pressure and diabetes by attending scheduled programs at Crisfield, Princess Anne libraries

SALISBURY — It’s a new year and MAC Incorporated, “Your Area Agency on Aging,” is out of the gate with free workshops in Somerset County to help seniors stay healthy and fit.

There are two classes to provide information on how to manage high blood pressure. They are:

  • Friday, Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Crisfield Library at 100 Collins Street. Call 410-968-0955 to register.
  • Monday, Jan. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Princess Anne Library at 11767 Beechwood Street. Call 410-651-0852 to register.

These single session workshops are designed for those who have been diagnosed with high blood pressure. Topics will include:

  • Defining high blood pressure
  • Medication management
  • Reading food labels
  • Reducing sodium in your diet
  • Complications with high blood pressure
  • Blood pressure guidelines/know your numbers

If you live with diabetes or are concerned about it, there are diabetes self-management workshops. They are offered free:

  • Fridays, Jan. 21 to Feb. 25, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Crisfield Library. Call 410-968-0955 to register.
  • Mondays, Jan. 31 to March 7, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Princess Anne Library. Call 410-651-0852 to register.

During these free workshops participants will learn how to deal with stress and how to address high and low blood sugar. They will also get information on exercise, carb counting, healthy eating and menu planning.
