Firearms charges result from Dover traffic stop

DOVER — Zhamir Cooper-Watson, 27, of Smyrna, was arrested on firearms charges during a traffic stop Sunday, authorities said.

According to Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman, at approximately 10:08 p.m., officers stopped Mr. Cooper-Watson for driving without headlights on in the area of Forrest Avenue and Kenton Road.

During the stop, police said, the suspect was seen moving rapidly in the driver’s seat, as if concealing something. Officers inquired if Mr. Cooper-Watson had anything illegal in the vehicle, and he revealed that there was a firearm in the trunk, police said.

Officers located a handgun and three magazines inside a backpack in the trunk, as well as a 9 mm handgun under the driver’s seat.

Mr. Cooper-Watson was taken into custody without incident and charged with two counts of carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was released on an own-recognizance bond.
