SEAFORD — A Dagsboro man was charged with a fifth-offense DUI, after being found unconscious across the driver and front passenger seat of a vehicle Thursday, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.

Maurice Baker was found in a Ford F-250 on Sussex Highway, in the area of Bridgeville Highway, in Seaford at approximately 2:27 a.m. Troopers determined that Mr. Baker was operating the truck, when he began to swerve on the roadway, Cpl. Pepper said.

When he stopped the vehicle on the shoulder, he became unconscious. As troopers and emergency medical services were on scene, approximately 0.01 grams of heroin were found on his person, police said.

An investigation ensued, and Mr. Baker was found to be driving under the influence of drugs, Cpl. Pepper said. A computer inquiry showed that he had four previous DUI convictions.

Mr. Baker was transported to a nearby hospital and medically cleared before being charged with fifth-offense DUI of any drug, consumption of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3, Georgetown, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on a $6,200 secured bond.
