Fastest Aronia berry picker can earn $200 Amazon gift card at UMES Extension event

PRINCESS ANNE — An Aronia berry picking contest will be held 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Aug. 26 at the UMES Research and Education Farm at 10789 Stewart Neck Road.

Area residents are welcome to join members of the campus community to complete in teams of up to four members for a top prize of a $200 Amazon gift card and a gift basket full of products made with Aronia.

Aronia betters, or chokeberries, are native to North America and are low in calories and high in fiber providing vitamin C and manganese. They also supply folate, iron and vitamins A and E plus are a beneficial antioxidant.

Contest participants can take home what they pick along with recipes provided by UMES Extension. There will be educational opportunities as well samples of Aronia berry ice cream. Lunch and networking will round-out the morning.
