Family Fun Day features free vaccines Sunday at Legislative Mall

DOVER — Dover’s Legislative Mall will host a day of family fun, featuring free COVID-19 vaccines Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m.

The event, Unity in the Community Family Fun Day, is a partnership between the Haitian Vizyon Alliance and Kent County Coalition for vaccine equity and organized by Tabitha Health Care and Rose Simon. It will feature Haitian DJs, comedians and vendors, along with other live entertainment.

The event will be open to everyone.

“The purpose of the event is to provide a day full of entertainment, vendors, food and fun while providing opportunity to get vaccinated,” said Rev. Rita Paige, one of the leaders of the Kent County Coalition.

Vaccinations will be for those 12 years old and older, using the Pfizer vaccine. Children under 18 must provide parental or guardian consent.

The vaccines are being administered by Dr. Nadya Julien, a Haitian owner of Tabitha Health Care in Laurel. The organization Black Nurses Rock will assist Dr. Julien with vaccinations.

Ms. Simon and Dr. Julien were the event planners while the Kent County Coalition helped to secure the location and Black Nurses Rock.

“This provides Haitians an opportunity to get vaccinated by someone that they know and trust,” Rev. Paige said.

The Kent County Coalition has helped with 9,228 vaccinations through July.

The coalition hosted a vaccination clinic on Saturday at New Beginnings Community AME Church in Frederica during an annual back-to-school event. Another school-based vaccination event will be held through the collation at Dover High on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. and another will be at Polytech High on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon.

The coalition also has a vaccination site at Delaware State University every Tuesday at Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
