Excessive heat watch issued for Kent, Sussex on Sunday

DOVER — The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch, effective from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday in Kent and Sussex counties.

Heat index values could reach 110 degrees, leading to an uptick in related illnesses or complications, the NWS said.

Those in the affected areas should drink plenty of fluids and stay out of the sun and in air-conditioned buildings, if possible.

Unattended car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes in these conditions, so the weather service also encouraged parents and pet owners to be extra cautious.
