Entries sought for Delaware’s Ocean Photo Contest

Posted

The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is seeking entries for this summer’s Ocean Photo Contest.

The event will run Thursday through Aug. 31, and the winner will be featured in an Outdoor Delaware article.

The start of the competition coincides with National Ocean Month in June and World Ocean Day on Thursday. In addition, Gov. John Carney and Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long have proclaimed this month Ocean Month in Delaware.

In celebrating the benefits the ocean contributes to our lives and livelihood, the contest seeks images that show a personal connection to the waterway.

“The state’s rich history has direct ties to the ocean, culturally, economically and as a destination for millions of visitors each year,” said Secretary Shawn Garvin. “Protecting and preserving these resources through active stewardship is essential to ensuring their viability for generations, and this photo contest is one way that we can help increase awareness of the importance of the ocean to Delaware.”

Photo contest subjects may include, but are not limited to, marine wildlife and habitat, recreation, fishing and marine transportation. Complete rules and a photo release form are available online.

Images must accompany the photographer’s name, a short description of what is shown in the photo and where and when it was taken.

Entries also must include the completed release form. A legal parent or guardian must fill out the form for contestants under age 18. The deadline is 4:30 p.m. Aug. 31.

A photo must have been taken in the state or off the shore of Delaware, and it must be original, previously unpublished and created solely by the submitting entrant.

Entries will be judged for composition and theme. Preference will be given to clear images of good quality.
