Posted

Edward Lloyd Middleton, Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in Baltimore, MD. Born on February 19, 1945, to Edward Lloyd Middleton, Sr. and Jean Spreckelmyer Middleton in Washington, D.C., Ed grew up in La Plata, Maryland, attended Gonzaga College High School, and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park. He had a distinguished career in mortgage banking, including 30 years as Vice President at Fannie Mae.

Ed moved to Columbia, MD in 1977, later meeting the love of his life, Susie. Their life together started on a blind date set up by his son at a Ducks Unlimited dinner. That night with kids cheering them on, Ed drove Susie home – a journey that blossomed into a beautiful life of 31 years together.

In 2001, Ed and Susie moved to Cambridge, MD, where they built their dream home and hunting lodge on 125 acres of waterfront property. He was an accountant, engineer, home builder, avid duck/goose hunter, and expert pyrotechnician. Ed loved his family, tractors, preserving nature, and his morning coffees with friends at the John Lewis Store.

Ed leaves behind his loving wife, Susan Middleton, his children, Edward (Ted) L. Middleton III and Christine E. Middleton; and his stepchildren William (Bunky) Hill, (Kim), Brittany Shanley (Matt, deceased). He was a proud grandfather to Zachary Barnes, Delaney Owens (Ryan), and Julia, Olivia, and Grace Shanley. Ed is also survived by his sister Jean (Gingie) Winkler (Richard), Mary Lou Lindholm (Dick, deceased), Sally Saifer (Robert), nephews Greg Winkler, Mark Winkler (Sarah), David Winkler (Mary), and niece, Megan Rose (David). He also leaves behind his eleven great nephews and nieces: Maddie, Emily, Hannah, Ella, Elaina, Abbey, Grant, Gavin, and Elizabeth Winkler; Sam and Anna Rose.

Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of life was held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 502 S. Morris Street, Oxford, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, please support the wetlands conservation efforts of Ducks Unlimited or a charity of your choice. LINK TO DU Donation Page: https://bit.ly/4hIrFl4
