Drew and Drew: Briggs King understands Delawareans

Posted

Let me tell you why we are supporting Ruth Briggs King for lieutenant governor. We are both retired military members — an Air Force fighter pilot and a Navy veteran (inducted into The Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame in 2021). We moved to Delaware in 2004 and met Ruth. Over the last 20 years, we have seen that no one works harder than she does for her constituents! From 2009-23, she represented constituents of the House of Representatives’ District 37 (Georgetown). She has consistently demonstrated Delaware common sense and a Delaware work ethic. And she’s careful with our money. She “gets” the citizens of Delaware. And she “gets” veterans.

While in the legislature, she not only supported medical care and benefits for veterans but worked tirelessly to bring them about. Delaware was once a haven for veterans, as it was for corporations. Under the recent administrations, corporations are now penalized for incorporating in Delaware, and our income from corporations has virtually dried up. And Delaware benefits for veterans in our state are in name only, with little actual support facing a crisis when it comes to their health care. And Ruth Briggs King is in favor of a cabinet-level position handling veterans’ affairs, which will help improve veterans’ issues.

Also, as an advocate for women, Ruth understands that female veterans can be underrecognized and less likely to seek and receive care. Ruth will ensure that all veterans — no matter their gender — have access to the best support in the country.

Ruth will advocate for common sense support of all Delaware citizens. And she will fight to ensure that veterans get the benefits they have earned and the quality care they deserve.

We will vote for Ruth Briggs King for lieutenant governor and encourage you to do the same.
