Dover traffic violation ends in drug arrest

DOVER — A 30-year-old Dover man was arrested on drug charges Monday following a traffic violation.

Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said James Jennings was located while driving with a suspended license in the area of Simon Circle and West North Street at approximately 11:22 a.m., authorities said. A vehicle stop ensued and police said Mr. Jennings attempted to flee on foot after being placed in handcuffs. He was apprehended again.

Police said two plastic bags containing a total of 82 smaller bags of crack cocaine, weighing approximately 31.1 grams, were located during the investigation.

Mr. Jennings was charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine, drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, resisting arrest and driving while suspended. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $42,100 secured bond.
