DOVER — The Dover Police Department is investigating a stabbing that left an 18-year-old male in critical but stable condition Tuesday, according to spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman.
Police said that at around 4 a.m., officers were called to the emergency room at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus after the victim arrived by private vehicle.
The teen had a laceration from his neck to his chest. He refused to provide information to detectives and said that, if police identified a suspect, he did not want he or she arrested, Sgt. Hoffman said.
Officers spoke to an acquaintance of the victim’s, who was in the car that transported him to the hospital. The acquaintance told officers that he had been riding in a vehicle and saw the victim on the side of Mifflin Road, just north of Hazlettville Road, being assaulted by two unknown males, Sgt. Hoffman said.
The acquaintance said he broke up the fight and that occupants of a second vehicle stopped to help, transporting them to the hospital.
Officers checked the scene where the incident occurred but couldn’t find any evidence of the altercation, Sgt. Hoffman said.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Dover police at 736-7111. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or here; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
