Dover probe brings firearm, drug arrest
DOVER — A 22-year-old man was charged with drug and firearm offenses Tuesday following an investigation, Dover police spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said.
Police said that Joel Mena was stopped in a black Nissan after leaving the Days Inn in the 200 block of North DuPont Highway at approximately 11:42 a.m. Police alleged that he was in possession of 166 bags of heroin, a handgun and $1,880 in suspected drug proceeds.
During the investigation, Sgt. Hoffman said, officers learned of another vehicle connected to Mr. Mena and executed a search warrant on a silver Volvo S60. In it, officers located 10.2 pounds of marijuana, 5 grams of fentanyl, 124 bags of heroin and 8.8 grams of cocaine, he said.
Mr. Mena, who police listed as homeless, was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm/ammunition by a person prohibited (two counts) and separate possession-with-intent-to-deliver counts of marijuana, fentanyl, cocaine and heroin, as well as carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on an $86,250 cash bond.
