Dover police investigating early morning shooting

DOVER — The Dover Police Department is investigating a shooting incident which occurred on Saturday morning in the 900 Block of Whatcoat Drive.

When officers arrived on the scene they located a 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his right thigh, DPD spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman said The victim was riding his bike in the area just after 3 a.m. when he was shot once.

The victim was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury, Sgt. Hoffman said. A nearby apartment was also struck by single round. The apartment was occupied by two people but no injuries occurred, according to authorites.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the DPD at (302) 736-7111. Callers may remain anonymous. Tips may also be submitted to law enforcement through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-TIP-3333 or online at delaware.crimestoppersweb.com; a cash reward is possible for information leading to an arrest.
