DOVER — A 48-year-old Dover man died in a single-vehicle crash on Wyoming Road Friday afternoon.

Delaware State Police spokeswoman Cpl. Amina Ali said the man was driving a 2020 Nissan Altima vehicle that failed to negotiate a curve at approximately 12:21 p.m., exited the roadway into a private yard, and then struck a tree before coming to rest. The driver, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was removed from the vehicle by citizens just before it caught fire, Cpl. Ali said.

The driver, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wyoming Mill Road was closed for approximately three hours while the collision was investigated and roadway cleared.

The crash remained under investigation by the Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Police ask anyone with information to contact Sgt. John Wheatley by calling 698-8518.

Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333 or online.
