DOVER — A 33-year-old Dover man died after a crash Wednesday on a dirt bike, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said.
Authorities said the man was operating a Honda CRF450 dirt bike when the incident occurred at approximately 9:08 p.m. at the intersection of Peachtree Run and Vanessa Drive. Police said a 2011 Hyundai Sonata was turning left onto Vanessa Drive when its right quarter panel was struck by the front of the dirt bike, which was traveling northbound on Peachtree Run.
The dirt bike was not street-legal and not equipped with any lights or reflective material, police said.
Cpl. Pepper said the Hyundai came to a stop shortly after the collision and remained on scene. The driver was not injured.
The Honda operator was transported to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, police said. Identification of the victim was pending notification of next of kin.
The DSP Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the collision. Authorities asked anyone with information on the incident to contact Cpl./3 J. Lane by calling 697-4454. Information may also be provided by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333 or by visiting its website.
