DOVER — A 35-year-old Dover man was charged with murder after his mother was found dead inside a home Friday night with an apparent gunshot wound.

Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said Kyle Leonard, 35, called 911 and said he had shot and killed his 67-year-old mother inside the home in the 200 block of Harriet Street. Troopers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:19 p.m.

Arriving troopers contacted Mr. Leonard in the front yard of the residence and he was taken into custody without incident, Cpl. Pepper said. A handgun was recovered at the scene, according to police.

Mr. Leonard was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 3 where he was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $200,000 cash bond.
