DOVER — A 29-year-old Dover man was arrested on firearms charges Sunday after he was seen in a vehicle at Schutte Park on Electric Avenue after hours, Dover police said.

Tyrone Snipes initially drove away as officers attempted to contact him at approximately 9:19 p.m., and a traffic stop then followed, according to spokesman Sgt. Mark Hoffman. Officers could smell marijuana in the vehicle, police said.

During a search, officers located a loaded handgun in the waistband of Mr. Snipes’ pants, Sgt. Hoffman said, and a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of an extended magazine and 3 grams of marijuana.

Mr. Snipes was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and possession of marijuana. He was released on an own-recognizance bond.
