DOVER — The Dover Elks Lodge 1903 will host Camp Small Wonder and Super Summer Playground campers Thursday for a Bicycle Safety Talk and Rodeo.

The 80 anticipated campers are participants in Dover Parks and Recreation summer camps.

The Bicycle Safety Talk and Rodeo will take place from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Elks Lodge located at 200 S. Saulsbury Road in Dover.

There will be 25-plus bicycles, helmets, lights and locks given away to select campers at the event.

“Partnering with the Dover Elks Lodge 1903 and DelDOT’s Bicycling Division, this event is one the summer camp kids get really excited about,” said Carolyn Courtney, of Dover’s Parks & Rec staff.

“They do lots of fun stuff all summer, but the chance to get a free bike, ride a fun course and get bicycling safety tips serves as a great highlight to the end of our summer camp season.”

John Fiori, of the Delaware Department of Transportation, will be on hand with a fun bicycling course and will offer the campers safety tips.

Elks Lodge volunteers will assist and will provide a hot dog lunch.

The Elks received a Beacon Grant which provided the funding to accomplish this community-strengthening event that supports Dover’s youth.

Levy Court to continue solar installation discussions

Kent County Levy Court will hold a combined meeting in the Levy Court Chamber of the Kent County Administrative Complex at 555 Bay Road in Dover on Tuesday night.

A featured item during the public hearing part of the agenda will be an amendment to an ordinance in Kent County Code and adding a new subsection relating to acceptance of Conditional Use Site Plan applications for Public Utilities – Solar Installations over 50 acres in size.

The public hearing began July 19 and is still open after being tabled at the previous meeting.

The hearing will follow the business meeting, which will begin at 7 p.m.
