TODDVILLE — On June 9, deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office responded to Toddville Back Street for a reported school bus in a ditch. Upon arrival, it was learned that Bus 54 had been driven into a ditch and become stuck.
Bus 54’s route is owned by County Council President Jay Newcomb. Mr. Newcomb did not respond to a written request for comment from the Dorchester Banner.
Scott Gordon Foxwell was arrested and charged with driving while impaired by alcohol, driving while under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving, driving a commercial vehicle under the influence of alcohol, driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and transporting a minor child, reckless driving and unsafe backing.
Dorchester County Public Schools spokesperson Valerie Goff was asked if DCPS would like to make a statement on the incident. Ms. Goff responded, “As this is a personnel issue with one of our contractors, we are not in a position to comment at this time.”
The suspect was released pending action by the District Court, there were no injuries to the occupants of the school bus at the time of the accident. The investigation is continuing.
