Heroin and handgun

On May 4, the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a call at 6219 Reliance Federalsburg Road, in Dorchester County. On arrival, deputies observed a man sitting in the driver’s side seat of a blue Ford pickup.

Deputies observed a white powder on a black clipboard believed to be a controlled dangerous substance. A search of the man revealed a pill bottle with five blue wax fold and a small clear bag containing heroin/fentanyl mix amounted to total 9 grams heroin/fentanyl.

A search of the vehicle revealed four pounds of cannabis in a commercial trash bag on the back seat and a polymer 80 handgun with a magazine containing 15 live rounds in a range bag on the passenger seat.

The suspect is an individual prohibited from possessing a regulated firearm.

Charles Simpson was charged with seven various C.D.S. related charges and six firearm related charges. He was arrested and held on no bond.

Fleeing and eluding

On May 15, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Ocean Gateway in the Trappe area for moving violations. Deputies also received a license plate reader (LPR) hit that the vehicle registration was suspended.

When emergency equipment was activated, the suspect vehicle accelerated east on Ocean Gateway in an attempt to elude police. The suspect vehicle continued into Dorchester County where the pursuit was joined by deputies from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect continued into Cambridge, losing control of his vehicle, striking a retaining wall and disabling his vehicle on Academy Street near Cedar Street. Deputies were able to take the driver into custody and identified him as a 29-year-old Federalsburg man.

A records check revealed he was wanted by the Cambridge Police Department for attempted murder and assault.

Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office charged Adrian Jerrod Jenkins with possession of a controlled substance, fleeing and eluding, driving without a license, and other traffic violations. Jenkins was transported to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing and an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.

Jenkins was held pending further court action. The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Cambridge Police Department.
