Shots fired/armed subject

On May 20, Cambridge Police Department officers responded to the 1000 block of Phillips Avenue in reference to shots fired. A witness advised officers that there were two suspects and provided a clothing description.

One suspect was arrested after a chase. He was charged with:

  • Resist arrest
  • Fail to obey
  • Obstruct and hinder
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Regulated firearm stolen
  • Handgun on person
  • Loaded handgun on person
  • Illegal possession of firearm minor.
Shooting investigation

On May 21, at approximately 12:09 a.m., CPD officers responded to the 600 block of Robbins Street for a “Shot Spotter Alert” for a single gunshot. Officers canvassed the area and were not able to locate anything.

At approximately 12:29 a.m., officers responded to the 800 block of Pine Street for a shooting. Officers contacted the victim. A male subject had approached his vehicle and fired one shot, striking the rear window. The victim was not injured.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the Cambridge Police Department asks citizens who may have information relating to this incident to contact CPD at 410-228-3333. All callers can remain anonymous.

Assault/DUI

On May 22, CPD officers responded to the 1200 block of Chestnut Place for an assault involving a knife. While officers were arriving, the suspect was leaving in a black vehicle at a high rate of speed.

Officers stopped the vehicle and contacted the suspect, a 42-year-old Cambridge man. Officers also contacted the victim and a witness who reported that the suspect had threatened to stab the victim.

John Michael Travis was charged with the following:

  • Assault first degree
  • Assault second degree
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Dangerous weapon intent to injure
  • Driving vehicle while under the influence of alcohol per se
  • Driving vehicle while impaired by alcohol
  • Driving vehicle while under the influence of alcohol
  • Driving vehicle in excess and reasonable and prudent speed
Vehicle thefts

The Cambridge Police Department is continuing to investigate incidents of vandalism, attempted vehicle thefts and vehicle thefts. Anyone who observes suspicious activity or who has information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Cambridge Police Department at 410-228-3333.

Recovered stolen vehicles

On May 23, CPD officers responded to the 600 block of Chesapeake Court for a report of a stolen vehicle occupied by subjects. They located three vehicles that had been reported stolen.

Two suspects attempted to flee on foot. One was quickly detained.

The other subject was apprehended in the 800 block of Washington St. The subjects were identified as a 14-year-old male juvenile and a 16-year-old male juvenile, both of Cambridge. Both subjects have been referred to the Department of Juvenile Services on the following charges:

  • Motor vehicle theft (three counts)
  • Theft $1,500- to under $25,000
  • Obstruction and hindering
  • Failure to obey
Frauds

The Cambridge Police Department has received many reports over the past several months of subjects having their checks being fraudulently changed and being paid to other people. A vast majority of the frauds that are occurring are after the victim has placed their checks in United States Post Office mailboxes throughout the city. A large number have been reported to have been placed in the following locations:

  • Locust Street off High Street
  • Cambridge Market Place
  • Peachblossom Avenue off Washington Street

These incidents are still being investigated in collaboration with the United States Postal Inspectors.

Assault

On May 21, CPD officers responded to the 600 block of Greenwood Avenue for a physical disturbance. They contacted two subjects, one of whom had injuries which matched what had been described in the incident.

Dontero Omon Diaz, 32, of Cambridge, was arrested and charged with assault second degree.

Theft

On May 16, at approximately 1:29 p.m., CPD officers responded to Walmart in reference to a theft. Ravin Michelle Bryant, 25, was charged with theft $100 to under $1,500

Theft

On May 17, CPD officers responded to Walgreen’s located in the 600 block of Sunburst Highway for a theft in progress. The following suspects were charged:

  • Ravin Michelle Bryan, 25, of Cambridge – theft $100 to under $1,500
  • Shavonne Monee Ross, 25, of Cambridge – theft less than $100
  • Elizabeth Renee Corkran, 23, of Cambridge – theft less than $100.
Theft

On May 17, CPD officers responded to Walmart in reference to a theft. Nathan Terone Johnson, 21, was charged with theft $100 to under $1,500.

Warrant service

On May 18, CPD officers located a 25-year-old Cambridge man who had an active Dorchester County arrest warrant. Officers became involved in a foot pursuit with the suspect as he attempted to flee. Valeek Khatib Camper was charged with the following:

  • Burglary first degree
  • Burglary third degree
  • Violate protective order
  • Assault second degree
  • Theft less $100
Burglary

On May 18, CPD officers responded to the 500 block of Academy Street for a report of a burglary. Sherise Ivey Sampson, 33, of Cambridge, was charged with:

  • Burglary fourth degree
  • Trespassing
  • Malicious destruction of property
Disorderly conduct

On May 18, CPD officers responded to the 2300 block of Leonard’s Lane for a disturbance. Kagene Renee Johnson, 28, of Cambridge, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Disorderly conduct

On May 19, CPD officers located a suspect vehicle that had been involved in a theft at Walmart the day prior. Malachi Tyree Wilson, 18, of East New Market, was charged with:

  • Fail to obey lawful order
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Driving vehicle on highway without current registration plates
  • Displaying expired registration plate issued by any state
  • Operating unregistered motor vehicle
  • Unauthorized display and use of registration plate
DUI

On May 19, CPD officers responded to Food Lion in reference to a report of an intoxicated driver. Shanika Saher Hardman, 33, of Cambridge, was released on the following charges:

  • Driving while under the influence of alcohol
  • Driving while impaired by alcohol
  • Driving while so far impaired by alcohol
  • Failure to display license
Theft

On May 19, CPD officers responded to Walmart in reference to a theft. Wendy Paola Menjivar, 34, of Trappe, was charged with theft $100 to under $1,500.

Telemarketers sued

Maryland Attorney General Anthony G. Brown announced that, along with 48 other Attorneys General offices, his Consumer Protection Division has filed a lawsuit alleging that Avid Telecom initiated and facilitated billions of illegal robocalls.

The Attorneys General allege that, between 2018 and 2023, Avid Telecom sent or attempted to transmit more than 24.5 billion calls nationwide.

Taylors Island Poker Run

On July 29, the Taylors Island Golf Cart Poker Run will benefit the Taylors Island Maryland Volunteer Fire Company. All proceeds go toward the purchase of a new fire engine.

MSP targets impaired driving

The Maryland State Police Berlin Barrack is launching a comprehensive initiative targeting impaired driving throughout June. Taking place every Saturday in June, this intensified law enforcement effort will see a heightened presence of troopers in Worcester County.

Disorderly conduct

On May 24, CPD officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 200 block of Washington Street for an equipment violation. Officers contacted the driver, a 45-year-old Hurlock man. The suspect attempted to walk away from the traffic stop multiple times, becoming belligerent and disorderly.

Brian Edward Conaway was charged with the following:

  • Disorderly conduct
  • Obstructing and hindering
  • CDS possession cannabis less than 1.5 oz. (civil citation)
Theft

On May 25, CPD officers responded to Walmart for a theft. Paul Anthony Bailey, 68, of Cambridge, was charged with theft less than $100.

Criminal summons service

On May 25, CPD officers located a 39-year-old Cambridge woman in the 900 block of Washington Street. She was served a criminal summons and released on her signature. Tykeshia Shantae Marine was charged with malicious destruction of property and willful motor vehicle damaging/tampering without owners consent.

Assault of child

On May 26, CPD officers located a 20-year-old Cambridge man in the 800 block of Field Crest Road. Charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred May 22 when the suspect was reported to have assaulted an 8-year-old juvenile due to the juvenile being suspended from school. The mother of the child applied for charges.

Edward Thomas Carroll was charged with assault second degree.
