CAMBRIDGE – Local high schools have chosen their September Athletes of the Month, in recognition of their success in sports and academics.

The Cambridge-South Dorchester Female Athlete of the Month is sophomore Camryn Russum. An athlete with an amazing work ethic both on and off the field, she has made an impact on the girls’ cross-country program, being a top finisher in this early part of the season.

Jharrell Hernandez-Antonio is the C-SD Male Athlete of the Month and a standout performer for the boys’ soccer team, with two goals against Kent County and a hat trick against North Caroline. Jharrell leads by example and pushes his teammates to their peak performance.

North Dorchester High School’s Varsity Athletes of the Month, sponsored by Cindy’s Eastside Kitchen, are Maggie Hubbard and Jordan Harding.

Maggie, a junior, leads the varsity volleyball team in several categories, including kills and aces. She has been to every practice and game, working hard to help her team as much as possible.

Senior Jordan is a captain of the soccer team, and an excellent example of a scholar-athlete, as a member of the Math Honor Society, taking two dual enrollment classes at Chesapeake College, and at the end of this semester will complete his PLTW engineering course.

Freshman Abbi Mills picks up the junior varsity prize, sponsored by Regal Cinemas. Abbi has been very instrumental in helping the volleyball team start the season 2-0 with her perfect attendance in practice, great attitude and her willingness to help fellow athletes and demonstrate leadership.

“Congratulations to these five great competitors!” a statement from Dorchester County Public Schools said.
