Candidate Name: D.J. Cox
Party: Democrat
Age: 33 years old
Hometown: Frederica
Political experience: This is my first attempt seeking an elected position. I believe that running for this office will enable me to give back to my community where I was born and currently live with my family.
Professional experience: After graduating from Lake Forest High School, I attended Delaware Technical Community College in Dover earning a degree in Criminal Justice. After being accepted into the Delaware State Police Academy as a police cadet, I sustained an injury that would prevent me from ever serving in law enforcement. After completing rehabilitation, I had to make a decision pertaining to my career. Knowing I was no longer able to be a police officer or able to serve in the military, I decided to become a truck driver. Today I drive a tractor trailer hauling propane for a local company who supplies propane to Kent County.
What uniquely qualifies you for this office?
Before making the decision to run for this office, I met with the current Recorder of Deeds to gain knowledge of this office and the service it provides to our community. After being educated about the responsibilities and the duties of this office, I knew this would be an opportunity for me to serve the people of Kent County where I was born and raised. I was trained to read and comprehend Delaware Law even though due to my injury I did not graduate from the DSP Academy. This is why I feel I am qualified for this office.
What are the top three issues for this office in your view?
What would be your top priority if elected?
Ensuring that deeds are recorded in a timely fashion, educating the public about the office and the services provided. Continue to keep the Recorder of Deeds Office running efficiently and accurately.
Relating to the Recorder of Deeds Office - if you could change one policy or law, what would it be?
Policies - In my research of the office policies it seems to be in order and not necessary to make changes at this time. Changes to policies must be approved by Levy Court. Laws - Kent County does not have home rule which means the State Legislature is responsible for changes to the law.
