MILLSBORO — A 35-year-old Delmar man was arrested in connection with a stolen vehicle Thursday, Delaware State Police said.

According to spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto, at approximately 4:15 p.m., a trooper responded to the 22000 block of Daisey Road for a report of a stolen car. The trooper learned that a dark-green Ford Focus had been taken from the driveway, along with fishing gear that was in the car.

At approximately 7, a Dagsboro police officer saw the stolen Focus being driven through town, Cpl. DeMalto said. The officer contacted the driver, identified as Terry Toomey, when he stopped at the Bodie’s Dairy Market, 912 Main St.

Mr. Toomey was detained without further incident and turned over to the state police. He was charged with motor vehicle theft, theft under $1,500, driving while suspended or revoked, driving at an unreasonable speed and third-degree criminal trespass.

Following arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 3, Mr. Toomey was released on his own recognizance on those charges. However, he also had numerous warrants for his arrest and was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $22,167 cash bond.
