A Veterans Stand Down is a one-day outreach event for all veterans and their guests. It is organized, planned and carried out by a volunteer committee that plans year-round. Agencies and local service providers across the state offer critically needed assistance in one convenient location. Services include housing, medical, dental, flu shots, behavioral health, VA eligibility assessment and benefits, haircuts, legal service, hot food, warm clothing, employment readiness assistance and camaraderie.

Due to COVID the 2020 event was cancelled but at the 2019 Stand Down event, 150 organizations assisted 1,500 veterans.

“This September we are expecting a large group of veterans and we rely on financial support and in-kind donations from the community. All donations are tax-deductible and checks should be made payable to ‘Delaware Veterans Stand Down, 12385 Sussex Highway, Greenwood, DE 19950,’” said Ms. Byers-Jiron.
