Three injured by gunfire at Christiana Mall Saturday

NEWARK – Saturday night the Delaware State Police confirmed that three people were injured by gunfire at the Christiana Mall in Newark. 

According to police officials, the victims were transported to an area hospital for medical treatment. 

At 8:49 p.m., state police issued a statement that there was no "public safety concerns" at the mall. Police advise that the area should still be avoided while its  investigation continues. 

At about 8 p.m., Delaware state police officials confirmed that it was investigating a shooting incident at the New Castle County mall. 

As a result, state police officials announced in a press release that there was an increased police presence in the area and the mall was closed.

“This investigation is in its early stages and is active and ongoing. Additional information will be released once it becomes available. Please avoid the area,” police officials said in the statement.

Across multiple social media platforms, witnesses reported alleged gunfire near the mall’s food court.

A reunification site has been set up at the north entrance by the AT&T store.
