Delaware lane closures limited over Fourth of July weekend

Lane closures on construction projects throughout the state will be limited for the Fourth of July weekend starting Friday through the end of the day Monday. To adjust routes and travel times, travelers can download the DelDOT app for Apple or Android.

The first celebration of the weekend is “Freedom Fireworks” on July 2 at dusk at the University of Delaware Athletic Complex in Newark. Delays before 6 p.m. and after the fireworks can be expected on Route 896 and Route 4 in Newark.

On Saturday, Rehoboth Beach will hold its fireworks show around 9:15 p.m. Rehoboth Avenue eastbound and Church Street from Del. 1 will be closed to vehicle traffic beginning at 8:30 p.m.

All traffic north of Rehoboth Avenue should exit via Columbia Avenue and Rehoboth Avenue and traffic south of Rehoboth Avenue should exit via Bayard Avenue southbound or via Hickman Street and Munson Street.

The Wilmington Riverfront, Legislative Mall in Dover and Lewes Beach have firework shows planned for Sunday. Traffic will not be permitted into the Riverfront after 8:30 p.m., downtown Dover delays are expected, and bridges to Lewes Beach will be closed to inbound/eastbound traffic; The Savannah Road Bridge beginning at 7 p.m. and the Freeman Highway Bridge beginning at 8 p.m.
