Delaware governor extends health emergency order once again

Posted

WILMINGTON — Gov. John Carney formally extended the state’s public health emergency order another 30 days Thursday.

The extension allows the state and medical providers to continue COVID-19 vaccination and testing programs.

“Positive cases are increasing here in Delaware and it’s important people stay one step ahead of COVID-19,” said Gov. Carney in a statement. “Keep doing the things we know that work. Stay home if you’re sick and get tested. Mask up in public indoor settings or if you are at a higher risk for illness. Get vaccinated and boosted when you’re eligible.”

Under Delaware law, public health emergency declarations must be renewed every 30 days.

Delaware has averaged 548.9 new cases of COVID-19 a day over the last seven days. The Delaware Division of Public Health reported 574 new positives in Thursday’s update and said 124 individuals are hospitalized with the virus.

The state’s seven-day rolling average for new positive cases was down to 183 per day one month ago. Hospitalizations have also doubled in the last month, with DPH reporting 60 of them 30 days ago.
