GEORGETOWN — The Sussex Conservation District (SCD) invites farmers, landowners, and agricultural professionals to a hybrid local work group (LWG) meeting on March 5 at 9 a.m. at the Vanderwende-Evans Conservation Center.

This event is free and open to the public, with limited in-person seating available. Pre-registration is required.

The LWG is a key opportunity for local farmers and landowners to voice their concerns and directly influence how USDA Farm Bill programs, administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), address conservation and resource needs in Sussex County. The input gathered will be included in the State Technical Committee meeting, which helps guide NRCS program implementation in Delaware.

“This meeting isn’t just about discussing conservation—it’s about ensuring that local farmers have a say in the programs that impact their operations,” said David Baird, SCD district coordinator. “The more diverse the participation, the better we can address the real needs of our agricultural community.”

Attending the local work group meeting is an opportunity to have a say in where conservation dollars are allocated in Sussex County, learn about new NRCS funding opportunities that could benefit your operation, and hear from other producers and conservation professionals about resource concerns in the area — all while enjoying coffee, light refreshments, and networking with peers.
