Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition plans upcoming events

DOVER — The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition will host several events offering community health resources and free breast screenings to the public.

Assistance will be available in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole.

Kent County

A Multicultural Community Wellness Fair will be held Saturday at Delaware State University, Dover.

The free outdoor event will include mental health information; assistance scheduling mammograms; COVID-19 vaccinations; activities for children; raffles and prizes; vendors; preclinical breast exams; screenings for blood pressure, lead and glucose; face painting; education about breast health, nutrition and substance abuse; and smoking cessation resources.

Representatives from the Mexican consulate also will be in attendance.

New Castle County

An Hispanic Heritage Community Health Fair is planned for Oct. 7 at the Route 9 Library & Innovation Center, New Castle.

This free event will offer mental health resources; assistance with scheduling mammograms; COVID-19 vaccinations and test kits; activities for children; prizes and giveaways; preclinical breast exams; screenings for blood pressure, lead and glucose; entertainment; education about breast health, nutrition and substance abuse; and smoking cessation information.

Additionally, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is partnering with Nemours Children’s Hospital, Wilmington, to provide mammography scheduling during October.

Anyone interested can find the group’s table in the atrium of the facility on the following dates:

  • Oct. 2 from noon to 1 p.m.
  • Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Oct. 16 from noon to 1 p.m.
  • Oct. 24 from noon to 1 p.m.
