Debby’s effects expected to increase overnight

Posted

WAKEFIELD, Va. — A variety of impacts will be felt across the area today and Friday from Tropical Storm Debby. Heavier rainfall will overspread the area through the day and into tonight creating localized flooding.

There will also be a threat of a few tornadoes, potentially lasting into the overnight hours.

“Be sure to have a way to receive warnings,” a statement from the US National Weather Service in Wakefield Va. said. “A Tornado Watch is already in effect for portions of the County Warning Area [the area for which the Wakefield office forecasts] this morning as the threat is expected to increase in the next few hours.”

Winds will gradually become gusty and persist into Friday. These southeasterly winds will create coastal flooding concerns along the Albemarle Sound, Virginia Beach area, Northern Neck, and portions of Dorchester and Somerset counties into tomorrow, the statement said.
