CRISFIELD — Winning designs for new bike racks were announced last year by the Crisfield Arts and Entertainment Project and now CAED is applying for a $20,000 Public Arts Across Maryland (PAAM) New Artworks Grant from the Maryland State Arts Council to get them built.
The public is also being invited to take a survey on where they should be located.
Jim Macko provided four designs. They each say Crisfield with one a crab combined with the city’s incorporation date of 1872 and another a fish hooked on a line. Two other emblems feature a kayaker and a cyclist. These seals as such that they can be placed on the ends of a new or pre-existing bike rack.
A lifelike crab is used by Christina Carlson, where the gaps in the legs and fins were spaced suitably to park a bicycle.
Evelyn Brumwell used an oyster rake and tongs as her inspiration, where the wheels of a bicycle rests between the teeth.
The survey shows images of each design, and is available at crisfieldarts.org/bike-rack-design or click here for the direct link. This survey will close at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov 17.
To comment in person, a community meeting will be held 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, at the Corbin Studio & Gallery, 4 E. Main Street. If attending please email jmerritt@crisfieldcityhall.com to RSVP.
The winning artists last year received a $500 check funded by a PAAM grant.
