CRISFIELD — The coronavirus pandemic in 2020 upset a lot of things, including the cancelation of the J. Millard Tawes Crab & Clam Bake after more than 40 years.
When it returned in 2021 instead of taking place on the third Wednesday in July which was commonly known as the hottest day of the year it was moved to the second Wednesday in October much to the delight of both workers and guests who especially enjoyed the fall temperatures.
As planning for 2022 started the date was rolled back a few weeks but it remained in autumn and now all systems are go for the 45th annual all-you-can-eat event noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28 at Somers Cove Marina.
General admission is $75 and entry to the catered VIP “Crab Trap” tent is $100.
Being an election year candidates are expected to be ever present to greet constituents and potential voters from across the state.
For those who come exclusively to eat, the menu hasn’t changed with steamed crabs, steamed, fried and raw clams, fried fish, corn on the cob, fries, onion rings and watermelon washed own with beer, soda or bottled water.
This is the biggest fundraiser hosted by the Crisfield Area Chamber of Commerce, and to prepare volunteers are requested to help bag clams 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26 at H. Glenwood Evans & Son. If you can attend call the chamber at 410-968-2500.
The chamber, located at 906 W. Main Street, is also where tickets can be purchased or they are available online through EventBrite but that includes fees of $6.20 per general admission and $7.72 per VIP ticket.
