CAMDEN — A 57-year-old Clayton man died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash, Delaware State Police said.
The crash occurred at 4:39 p.m. Friday, police said.

Police said the man was driving a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on U.S. 13 approaching Old North Road. A gray 2019 Jeep Cherokee was stopped in the left turn lane of northbound U.S. 13, preparing to turn westbound onto Old North Road.

When the traffic light turned green, the Jeep began to turn left toward Old North Road, police said. Traffic on U.S. 13 was stopped for the southbound red signal. As the Jeep was proceeding to make the left turn, police said the motorcycle entered the left shoulder of U.S. 13, passing several stopped cars.

According to police, the Harley failed to stop at the red light and entered the intersection. As the Jeep entered the intersection, the front of the Jeep struck the front of the Harley.

After impact, the Harley’s driver was thrown from the motorcycle in a southwesterly direction, police said. The man was transported to Bayhealth Hospital Kent Campus, where he later died from his injuries. His identification was withheld Saturday pending notification of next of kin.

The 51-year-old Jeep driver was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the collision was investigated and the roadway cleared.
