Christmas spirit with the Chorus of Dorchester

Posted

CAMBRIDGE - With the 2022 concert themed “It's Christmastide Again!” the all-volunteer, 60-voice Chorus of Dorchester will perform its 47th series of seasonal music this December. These free-to-the public holiday celebrations present a wide range of choral selections from ancient to modern and Bach to blues, including a number of Christmas favorites such as “The Holly and the Ivy,” “The Twelve Days of Christmas” and G. F. Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus.”

Since 1975, the Chorus of Dorchester has been bringing together Dorchester County residents and friends, from middle schoolers to senior citizens, who share a love of singing. Its membership includes many who have participated since 1975 as well as a number who have joined for the first time this year. The chorus is under the direction of Cookie Brohawn, accompanied by Laura Todd on piano and Barbara Hubbard on organ, and funded by the Nathan Foundation.

Dates and venues for “It's Christmastide Again,” all in Cambridge, are:

  • Saturday, Dec. 10, 4 p.m., Christ Episcopal Church on High Street, followed by Second Saturday in downtown Cambridge
  • Tuesday, Dec. 13, 7 p.m., at the Dorchester Center for the Arts, 321 High Street.

“Mark your calendars and celebrate Christmastide with the Chorus of Dorchester!” a statement from the group said last week.
