Change to state pensioners’ health insurance focus of meeting in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN — Sussex County members of Delaware’s General Assembly will host a meeting Sept. 22 to discuss changes to state pensioners’ health insurance.

The session, at CHEER’s Warren & Charles Allen Community Center in Georgetown, will run 6:30-8:30 p.m. and feature speakers from the Statewide Benefits Office, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Delaware Office of Pensions.

Effective Jan. 1. 2023, Delaware will replace the medical plan coverage for state pensioners with a Medicare Advantage plan (Freedom Blue), which will be administered by Highmark. The new coverage will reportedly match the benefits of out-of-pocket costs for care offered under the current Medicfill plan.

The speakers and hosts will also take questions from attendees.
