GEORGETOWN — All systems are go for the 11th annual CHEER Car-Truck-Bike Show, and in honor of CHEER’s 50th year, the event will offer much more than wheels.
The Aug. 7 festivities, which follow a 2020 car show event abbreviated due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Warren L. & Charles C. Allen Jr. CHEER Community Center on Sand Hill Road, east of Georgetown.
In addition to vehicles showcased in the parking lot, the event will include a craft fair/hobby show inside the building, a live auction and a barbecue lunch.
Vanderwende’s will be on-site, offering ice cream and other cool treats. In addition, DJ Sky Brady will provide music and entertainment.
As of its Tuesday meeting, the event’s Planning Committee had 20 vendors registered.
“Twenty-five was the original barometer,” said Katie Leister, CHEER’s venue/promotions director. “We have 20 on the books. We’re hoping for more. We would love 30 to 35.”
CHEER’s craft and hobby events were not held last year, due to COVID-19.
“Because of the pandemic, we haven’t had it in two years. So we’re going to have it this year, along with the car show,” said Walter Koopman, a member of the Planning Committee.
Vendors will have assorted articles for sale. For information about vendor cost and space availability, contact Ms. Leister at 854-9500 or 854-2892.
The live auction — featuring various pieces of valuable merchandise — will be orchestrated by volunteer auctioneer Dave Wilson. It will start at noon.
Several auction items have been donated, including a half-day fishing trip, several hours of cleaning service, an elegant watch, a yoga membership and a gym membership. And organizers are hopeful more items will be contributed.
In addition, a variety of gift cards will be offered in a raffle-type drawing.
All show participants will receive dash plaques. Conducted by the County Seat Cruisers, the car show is expected to feature classic vehicles and several race cars.
Registration, at $35 each, includes two tickets to the barbecue. Advance registration is strongly recommended.
All vehicles must be registered and positioned by 10, or they will not be judged. To sign up, visit here or call 515-3040. Information is also available by contacting Joyce Infussi at 515-3040 or firstname.lastname@example.org or Mr. Koopman at 745-5668 or email@example.com.
At 1, seven trophies and 35 slates will be awarded for car, truck and bike show entries. Trophies will be given for:
Organizers remind attendees to be aware of the new road patterns and parking instructions on Sand Hill Road when accessing the CHEER Center.
“We are trying to encourage people to preregister to eliminate a lot of problems on that morning,” said Mr. Koopman.
Barbecue lunches — featuring a choice of chicken or ribs, baked beans, potato salad, a roll and a pickle — will be available starting at 11:30 for $15 each. Enough for 400 lunches will be prepared by CHEER Kitchen Manager Harry Cannon and his helpers.
All activities will be open to the public free of charge.
Money raised from this event will support CHEER’s services for Sussex County senior citizens.
Aug. 8 is reserved as a rain date.
