Camper sentenced for two armed robberies

Posted

SALISBURY — On Sept. 14, the Honorable K. Dean, Associate Judge of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County, sentenced Tyrone Camper, 32 years of age, of Cambridge, to 24 years imprisonment in the Maryland Division of Corrections. Camper entered guilty pleas to two counts of armed robbery immediately preceding his sentencing.

In the late-night hours of Aug. 8, 2020, Camper entered Church’s Market in Salisbury. produced a small handgun and demanded money from the owner. The owner handed over approximately $117 in cash, whereupon the defendant fled, shedding clothes as he departed the area.

The next day, just after noon, the defendant repeated his conduct at the Pizza City restaurant in Salisbury, obtaining just over $90 in cash from the owners there.

Officers of the Salisbury Police Department apprehended the defendant a short time later in the vicinity of Pizza City with the firearm and cash still on his person. DNA analysis of the clothing shed at both crimes scenes positively identified Camper, as did the video surveillance cameras at both locations.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney (SA) Jamie Dykes commended Det. Underwood of the Salisbury police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, the lead investigator on the case, and other members of SPD, for their hard work in the investigation. SA Dykes also commended Senior Assistant State’s Attorney D, Scott Messersmith, who prosecuted the cases.
