LEWES — A 19-year-old Pennsylvania woman was critically injured when the bicycle she was riding was struck by a truck Thursday evening.

Delaware State Police spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said the woman, of Douglasville, was traveling through the intersection of Plantations Road and failed to see a pickup truck that was turning on a green light. The bicyclist was knocked to the ground as a result of the impact. The incident occurred at approximately 5:38 p.m., authorities said.

The bicyclist was flown to an area hospital where she was admitted in critical condition.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

The road was closed for approximately 1 1/2 hours as the accident was investigated, and the roadway was cleared.
