Ben’s Red Swings cleanup day is Saturday, Nov. 25

The annual Ben’s Red Swings cleanup day in Salisbury City Park will be held Saturday, Nov. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon.  Please bring work gloves, pitchforks, rakes, shovels, brooms and wheelbarrows. (Don’t forget to label your tools.)

Donuts and bagels, coffee and hot chocolate will be provided.

Volunteer hours available for high school students.

Enjoy a Traditional Southern Christmas meal at MAC

Enjoy a traditional Southern Christmas meal of smoked turkey, garlic smashed potatoes, seasoned green beans and sweet potato pie in MAC’s December Lunch Around the World.

Orders are due at noon on Friday, Dec. 15, meals can be picked up on Wednesday, Dec. 20, between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the MAC lobby.

The cost is $12 per meal. Proceeds will benefit MAC’s Meals on Wheels.

Virtual poetry reading to be held Dec. 5

Wor-Wic Community College is inviting the public to a free virtual poetry reading by D. Nurkse on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m., via Zoom. 

Nurkse’s 12th poetry collection, “A Country of Strangers: New and Selected Poems,” was published in 2022.  His poems have appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry and in six editions of the Best American Poetry anthology series. He is a recipient of a literature award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, as well as a Guggenheim fellowship.

Powellville church to host drive-thru luncheon

The Powellville United Methodist Church will hold a drive-thru luncheon on Saturday, Nov. 25.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and continue until sold out

The church is located at 35606 Mount Hermon Road in Powellville.

The menu includes oyster fritter sandwiches, soups, chicken salad and a bake table.

Turkey Trek planned Thanksgiving Day at Pemberton 

Start off Thanksgiving morning with Wicomico Rec & Parks’ 15th annual Turkey Trek 5K through the beautiful trails of Pemberton Historical Park.

There will be awards for the overall male and female winners and for first through third place, as well as male and female winners in several age groups. Participants can dress up and try to earn the award for Best Thanksgiving Costume.

This year a designated runner will be dressed as a turkey. All participants will be trying to outrun the “turkey” on the trails. Stickers will be awarded based on how competitive you were against the turkey’s time.

As a little added bit of motivation there will be refreshments and pie waiting for you at the finish line.

Registration is $40.

SU senior art exhibition continues through Dec. 13

Salisbury University graduating art majors will display their work during the 69th Biannual Senior Art Exhibition “Perception,” Nov. 13 through Dec. 13, at SU Art Galleries Downtown.

An awards reception is 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1.

The exhibition showcases 13 artists mastering various art media including painting, drawing, graphic design, photography, ceramics, glass, sculpture and new media installation.

Each artist showcases their knowledge in their field through a concentration crafted over the course of their SU career. Perception approaches these ideas through varying lenses that come together like a kaleidoscope.

A course taught by Jinchul Kim, Professor of Art, senior exhibition aims to summarize students' art experiences at SU by having them lead the planning and execution of a professional art exhibition as a capstone course.

Admission is free and the public is invited. Light refreshments will be served at the reception.

Salisbury Elks Lodge to hold Christmas bazaar 

Come out to the Salisbury Elks Lodge No. 817 for Christmas Shopping with a variety of local vendors. There will be something for everyone on your Christmas list and something for yourself too.  

The Christmas Shoppers Bazaar will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is a family-friendly event; children will have an opportunity to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. 

Shoppers over 21 years of age can enjoy a Mimosa or Bloody Mary while shopping. Other refreshments will be on sale too, including soft drinks, breakfast and lunch items.

Admission is free this year. Attendees are asked to bring a new pair of winter gloves or socks, a winter hat, or a scarf to donate that will benefit Elks programs supporting local families in need during this holiday season.

 Join Honorary Chairs Chris and Kennan Eccleston at Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County’s 13th annual Chefs for Habitat Gourmet Gala on Saturday, March 2, at the Wicomico Civic Center.
