Bay Bridge to close Thursday for ship’s passage

Posted

ANNAPOLIS — On Sept. 9, the Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) will temporarily hold traffic in both directions on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (US 50/301) and Francis Scott Key Bridge (I-695) during passage of marine vessels carrying four large cranes.

Traffic holds will be utilized for safety purposes to ensure that drivers are not distracted crossing these bridges during the cranes’ passage beneath the structures. Traffic holds are anticipated to last for approximately 15-30 minutes.

The vessels’ estimated time of passage will occur in the morning at the Bay Bridge and the early afternoon at the Key Bridge.

The MDTA announced Thursday morning that the closures would take place at the   Bay Bridge at approximately 10 a.m. and Key Bridge at approximately 12 p.m.
For real-time updates on this event,  on Twitter at twitter.com/TheMDTA or view the feed  at mdta.maryland.gov. You may also call 1-877-BAYSPAN (229-7726) for 24/7 traffic conditions at the Bay Bridge.

Times and durations will be approximate and dependent upon the vessel’s progress. This transport is weather dependent.
