Athlete of the Week: Brenya Reid, Sussex Central volleyball

Posted

Sussex Central High volleyball player Brenya Reid has been voted this week’s State News Athlete of the Week.

The senior collected 42 kills, seven aces and 14 digs in a pair of matches last week. She had 33 kills alone in a 3-1 win over Polytech.

For the season, Reid has 101 kills, 22 aces, three blocks and 22 digs in four matches. She has verbally committed to continuing her career at James Madison.

“Bre is arguably the best hitter in the state,” said Golden Knights coach Mike Adams. “She is a dominant force on the court who creates great challenges for defenses. She has the ability to hit around and over blocks, and she hits with power. Bre was first-team all-state last year, and she is an ever more dominant player this year. Most importantly, Bre is a good person of great character.”

The Athlete of the Week is nominated and chosen by our readers. The nominating period starts at 2 p.m. on Friday and ends at noon on Monday. A voting period follows from 5 p.m. Monday through 5 p.m. Wednesday.

This process is performed exclusively online. When nominating an athlete, please include name, school and sport as well as a photo and brief description of why he or she deserves that week’s honor.

All nominations must be high school varsity athletes and come from high schools within Kent or Sussex counties. The winner appears in print and online each Friday.
