Aerial mosquito spraying over select Somerset County sites set Aug. 9

SALISBURY — The Mosquito Control Section of the Maryland Department of Agriculture will be treating for mosquitoes sections of Somerset County by aircraft on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 9 weather permitting.

The communities of Champ, Chance, Dames Quarter, Deal Island, Ewell, Oriole, Rhodes Point, St. Stephens, Tylerton and Wenona will receive aerial spraying services by a twin-engine, white plane with red and blue stripes, registration number N903MD. It will fly 300 to 500 feet above the ground.

Residents of the affected areas are advised that the insecticide to be applied is Trumpet, a formulation containing naled and applied at less than 1.0 fluid ounce per acre. Approximately 9,362 acres will be treated. It is not necessary for people, pets or livestock to leave the area to be treated.
