Adewunmi "Ade" Kuforiji State Rep. District 34

Posted

Candidate Name: Adewunmi "Ade" Kuforiji

Party: Democratic

Age: 51

Hometown: Dover

Political experience:  not anawered

Professional experience: 30 years of State Government Experience, mostly in financial management.  Chief Financial Officer in a school district

What uniquely qualifies you for this office?

My years of experience in government.  I have the knowledge of government operations and know how to connect with the experts in agencies that can give good advice on how to make government work better for our citizens.  Such knowledge is critical when crafting legislation. Understanding of the impact of legislation on those that have to implement those policies is very important.

What are the top three issues for this office in your view?

Education -  To support the teachers, administrators and support staff that educate our children and make sure decision-making is left to them as the trained professionals, that they are.

Voting Rights - Defending voting rights of citizens by making it easy for citizens to access and exercise their right to vote.

Financial Responsibility – We need a fiscally responsible budget to serve the present and future needs of our community, county and state. This is why I will support measures which lead to greater generation of revenue and more efficient use of our resources.

What would be your top priority if elected?

Minimize influence on education policy by non-educators.  Too many people are making education decisions that don’t have any formal training in education.  Our children suffer from their education experiments.

If you could change one state policy or law, what would it be?

Minimizing the influence of non-educators in education policy and operations. I would look at education policies that are obstacles to educators in effectively teaching our children and work on getting them removed.

What can Delaware do about its workforce issues?

I think the State has already taking a significant step in the right direction - expanding the SEED scholarship is helpful, which provides funding for all Delawareans who would like to pursue an academic degree or workforce training certificate.

What, if any, gun laws would you change?

I respect the people’s 2nd Amendment rights, but I don’t think military grade equipment belong on our streets.  I’ll support the laws that keep military grade weapons off our streets.

How would protect or change abortion rights in the state?

I respect the woman’s right to choose.  Along with that goes the need to make sure adequate healthcare and wellness access is available to women and babies/children.

Do you support the State Employee Benefits Committee’s move to Medicare Advantage Plan for state retirees? Why?

At the present time, I do not have enough information on the proposed plan.  I do support the State keeping the retirement commitment made to our retirees during their employment.
