11th Annual Wings of Hope set to take off June 19

LEWES — The 11th Annual Wings of Hope, a butterfly release to benefit the Cancer Support Community Delaware, will be held in June.

The butterfly release will be held Saturday, June 19 at 9 a.m. outside at Stango Park, 114 3rd St., Lewes. The event is highlighted by the release of Monarch butterflies in recognition of family, friends and neighbors throughout Sussex County and Delaware whose lives have been impacted by cancer.

New to the event will be an art walk. CSCDE is calling fluttering artists of all ages to showcase butterfly inspired art throughout the park during the event. Art forms such as paintings, pottery, sculpture, textiles, antiques and photographs will all be accepted.

Submissions will due by June 4. Voting for entry to the art walk will be done by the Wings of Hope planning committee. All registrants will have their images showcased on the website and space is limited at the event. All artists will receive an event t-shirt. Price for entry is $10.

This celebration of life ceremony will be open to the public and is a free community event. Safe family-friendly activities, demonstrations and a chance auction will be happening throughout the morning. WRDE Coast TV’s Madeline Overturs will emcee the live event. The event will adhere to COVID policies and protocols.

CSCDE encourages attendees to pre-purchase a live butterfly as well as event merchandise such as seeded butterflies, masks and t-shirts online. Purchases can be picked up in the office prior to the ceremony, at the event or mailed.

The event will be live streamed at 10 a.m. on Facebook Live @CancerSupportDE or view on the CSCDE website the following week.

For sponsorship opportunities or questions about the event, contact Michelle Mallon at mmallon@cscde.org, or 995-2850.
