EDEN — Coops to Co-ops at 31140 Peggy Neck Road north of Princess Anne has a special educational program during the regular Saturday market on July 2 which features a Gathering Plant Memories printing on fiber class at 10 a.m.

Artists or those who sew will be instructed by Sue Bromm, the master behind Hedgerow Stitches. She is a fiber artist who enjoys embroidery, sewing, working with natural dyes and Japanese techniques. Students for will receive hands-on instruction in the fiber printing technique of Tataki zomi, from the Japanese tataki, hammering and zomé, dying is the ancient Japanese art of transferring botanical dyes from flowers and leaves onto fabric by simply hammering them onto the surface of the fabric.

The plants and leaves themselves provide the natural dye and patterning for the design. Bring your own hammer or stone (some stones will be provided for children taking the class) and Ms. Bromm will show participants how to turn flowers into the dyes and patterning a plant-dyed bandana. The class is open to both adults and children and the cost to participate is $15 to cover fabric and instruction.

Coops to Co-ops Market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with fresh local produce, coffee, baked goods, honey, candles, fabric art, bulk grocery items, apothecary items, plants for the garden, wood crafted items, rugs, hand printed cards, jewelry, a swap shop and much more. Some Saturdays the healing arts center on the property offers both children’s and adults’ yoga.

The First Saturday of each month also boasts live music in the market coop or garden. Coops to Co-ops is a membership based community that seeks to integrate the new with the old by cultivating a space for community to tune in, access, explore and express that innate knowledge that comes from connecting to the earth and their community.
