Weapon and drug charges follow traffic stop in Dover

DOVER — Delaware State Police arrested a Kent County pair on weapon and drug charges following a traffic stop in Dover, authorities said.

The arrests of Marc Cushman, 41, of Dover, and Caitlyn Buckley, 20, of Smyrna, on Wednesday stemmed from a stop after a vehicle was seen traveling at a high speed on U.S. 13 with no license plate displayed at approximately 10:29 p.m. Mr. Cushman, the driver, and Ms. Buckley, the passenger, were contacted after the vehicle stopped in the Rite Aid parking lot, police said.

Police said Mr. Cushman was observed making furtive movements in the vehicle during the traffic stop. The trooper asked Mr. Cushman to exit the Cadillac, and a criminal investigation ensued

Drug paraphernalia was observed in plain view inside the vehicle, spokeswoman Master Cpl. Heather Pepper said. A probable cause search followed later and police said it located a Harrington and Richardson Arms Company handgun, approximately .032 grams of crystal methamphetamine, approximately 31.04 grams of marijuana, and four Dextroamphetamine pills.

Mr. Cushman was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession charges including marijuana, firearm while under the influence, and controlled substance, reckless driving, driving under the influence of drugs and traffic violations. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,103 cash bond.

Ms. Buckley was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance. She was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released on her own recognizance.
